The Ballard Civic Orchestra performs Cantata Sueños by Arturo Marquez with the Singing in the Rain Choir in celebration of the Mexican holiday Día de los Muertos (“Day of the Dead”). Also on the program will be works by Camille Saint-Saëns, Charles Gounod, and Sergei Prokofiev.
Join the Ballard Civic Orchestra for a night of tradition, ceremony, and celebration. On the program will be Concerto grosso in G minor, Op. 6 No. 8 by Arcangelo Corelli, a collection of villancicos, and more holiday music. Join in the fun after the performance with a holiday fiesta including food, piñatas, and dancing!
Holding a mirror to our shared legacy, “The Other Conquest” is a musical and dramatic exploration – from Antonio Vivaldi’s opera Motezuma, RV 723, to a work composed specifically for this performance by Héctor Armienta with a libretto by Redmond, Washington’s Poet Laureate, Raúl Sánchez.
In a celebration of women, mothers, and the Mother Earth, the Ballard Civic Orchestra will perform original music by María José Félix in a world premiere collaboration with Washington State Poet Laureate Claudia Castro Luna. World-renowned Mexican American concert pianist Daniela Liebman will also join the orchestra to perform Manuel Ponce's first piano concerto.
